worker rights

this was posted yesterday in DC:

so after reading it i realized why i had to go to geneva to get my swiss ID/Visa.

i didn't know when i got here that i was under a diplomatic visa status. my bosses had no idea why i had to go pick it up since they are too on diplomatic visas, but they are not here as private domestic workers.

the man in geneva, very nice fellow, explained to me that i was in person there to get it because this office needs to ensure that every person coming to work in switzerland know their full rights under this visa.

sure, i could require my bosses to pay for my rent...but i don't. i make enough money to not have to do this.

but some workers say from some developing nations come here to work and bring their servants....who they try to get to live like slaves. the man in geneva told me that he has worked with some really awful cases of no access to bathrooms at night, locked kitchens....dirty horrible things.

also on this visa, i am not allowed to marry or have kids. phew! good thing i am not in want of those two things eh? now i can flash my card to those that woo me and say 'well sir, not allowed to marry so....see ya!'

my father is stable but now i have no clue how long he will be this way.

i think i get to go home early today. this would be bliss. it's rare that i get to go home early!
